A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck northern Morocco on Monday night, with tremors reaching several regions in Andalusia, Spain, and the Algarve, Portugal. According to Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN), the earthquake occurred at 11:48 PM, with its epicenter located in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, near the city of Ksar El Kebir, at a depth of 34 kilometers.

Residents of multiple cities and towns in Andalusia reported feeling the tremors, particularly in Campo de Gibraltar. The impact was recorded in Seville, Cádiz, Málaga, Huelva, Jaén, and Córdoba, with varying intensity between levels II and III on the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS).

  • Seville: Alcalá de Guadaíra, Guillena, San Juan de Aznalfarache, Bormujos, Carmona, Mairena del Aljarafe, Dos Hermanas, and the capital.

  • Huelva: Lepe and Huelva capital.
  • Jaén: Linares.

The tremors were also felt in southern Portugal, particularly in the Algarve region.

Residents of Campo de Gibraltar took to social media to share their experiences, with posts asking, "Did anyone else feel the earthquake?" trending on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). Meanwhile, Andalusian emergency services (112 Andalucía) received five official reports from citizens early in the morning, including four from Seville and one from Huelva.
